May 14, 2016, the air show community lost a great pilot and an even better person, Greg Connell. Not only does this tragic loss affect Greg's friends and family, but it affects the entire air show industry, including fans, air show organizers, and fellow performers.
Greg was scheduled to perform in half a dozen air shows throughout the remainder of 2016, including the 2016 Aviation Expo and Air Show in Greenwood, South Carolina. Scheduled for June 25, the air show includes Greg's mentor and friend Gary Ward and a variety of other performers.
Following the loss of one of the show's featured performers, aerobatic superstar Patty Wagstaff has stepped up and offered to honor Greg Connell by taking his spot in the 2016 Aviation Expo. Patty is a 3-time National Aerobatic Champion and an inductee into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. She's a resident of St. Augustine, Florida, where she runs the Patty Wagstaff Aerobatic School.
June 25, Patty Wagstaff will pay tribute to Greg Connell by flying a thrilling, low-level aerobatic demonstration just as Greg flew himself. Her breathtaking performances give airshow spectators a front-row seat view of the precision and complexity of modern, unlimited hard-core aerobatics. Her smooth aggressive style sets the standard for performers around the world.
