The United States Air Force Thunderbirds have announced that they’ll salute COVID-19 responders around the nation on Saturday in the skies above Las Vegas.

Over the last month, the Thunderbirds’ start to the 2020 show season has continued to be pushed back, with thirteen shows cancelled through the end of June. The only scheduled appearance remaining on the team’s schedule prior to July is Ocean City, Maryland, slated for June 13-14.

While the team won’t be hitting the road anytime soon, the Thunderbirds have resumed training flights and conducted a practice flyover at the U.S. Air Force Academy in preparation of the 2020 graduation flyover. Eight jets flew from Las Vegas to Colorado Springs, flew two practice runs, and then flew back to Las Vegas without landing.

Thursday evening, the Thunderbirds released a statement saluting COVID-19 first responders, saying “We support and thank healthcare workers, first responders and everyone on the front lines of our fight against the coronavirus.” They also announced that they’ll be showing their support from a safe social distance with a flyover of the Las Vegas area Saturday, April 11 at 2:30 PM PST.
